On October 5th, the working group ‘Environment’ of the parliamentary group Alliance90/The Greens (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) held a stakeholder and expert meeting – the Drought Dialog – to discuss the current drought conditions and the implications for policy and decision-making.
Fanny was invited to provide an input on drought and water quality deterioration. She highlighted the pressures on water resources from climate change and societal water consumption and the risk that groundwater may lose it’s ability to buffer temporal periods of scarcity.
The conflicts around seasonally limited water resources, especially groundwater resources, may become more intense in the near future, which requires sustainable water management approaches. In this regard, Fanny shed light on the potential of transdisciplinary research and stakeholder involvement as part of an adaptive Governance framework.
